Electronic Music enthusiast, avid vinyl archivist, event organizer and DJ. DJ RWM has a history of involvement that spans over the course of 20 + years.
Beginning in 1980's urban hip-hop/b-boy culture centered around the activities of break dancing and graffiti is where RWM was first exposed to electro/freestyle and dance music and the art of DJ'íng and Turntablism. Evolved from there into a more eclectic and experimental style as a DJ, contributed to the long standing position as an " on air " radio DJ for an alternative / college radio station and as DJ there, had a strong focus on early Industrial and Electronic Music ( labels: Underworld, Nu Groove, Wax Trax!, Play It Again Sam!, Nettwerk, Mute artist: Throbbing Gristle,Christian Marclay, Nitzer Ebb, Clock DVA, Front 242, The Normal, Kraftwerk, Cybotron, etc; ) during his time there he was also exposed to information about the underground warehouse party scenes in Chicago and The U.K. and already frequenting clubs and alternative concerts in NYC. By 1989, RWM was already familiar with and DJ'ing the sounds of Acid House from Chicago and the U.K. and early Detroit Techno and by 1993 was attending some of the first ever Rave events organized on the East Coast of America , especially in New York City and was heavily influenced by the Storm Rave / Sonic Groove Records collective, Frankie Bones, Adam X, Jimmy Crash and Heather Heart, from Brooklyn, NYC. An immediate connection to the music, the artists and the culture was established and he attended more than 150 events during that period, from East Coast to West Coast America and Canada and also began to organize and DJ Underground Techno parties by 1994 under the concept which has become known as, and still today as, Shadowcast.Organization.
Over the years, many events have been organized in America, as well as in Europe, featuring some of the most influential names in Electronic Music, including but not limited to, Cristian Vogel ( invited the artist to America for his very fist appearance there ), Underground Resistance DJ Assault Squad, Mike Dred, Joey Beltram , Imminent Starvation, Black Lung, Somatic Responses, Christopher Just, Fixmer/McCarthy, Legowelt, DJ 3000 etc;
By 1997 he was employed by Satellite Records in New York City where he was the buyer for the IDM, Techno, and Experimental Electronic Music departments and during his time there, played an integral part in the development of the Alternative Rave scene in New York City, having been heavily involved in " Free / Renegade Parties " that were strongly influenced by Collectives and Sound Systems such as Spiral Tribe and Sound Conspiracy and had the " spirit " of the original renegade warehouse parties without the commercialism and hype that became apparent in the Rave and Club scene. During this time, also established, with one release, Shadowcast Recordings, which will return as a record label in 2012.
After the tragedies of 9/11 in New York City, the culture surrounding Electronic Music was effected and RWM made the move to San Francisco just prior, There, as Creative Director for Shadowcast.Organization began to include Contemporary Art ( New Media, Digital, Interactive, Installation, Performance and Street Art ) into the event situation, in order to bring new and experimental ideas to Electronic Music events and to help push for the survival of the culture under such difficulties of that time.
Today, DJ RWM resides in Berlin, Germany and frequents Paris, France where he is active as the Creative Director for Shadowcast.Organization and after many years remaining in obscurity as a DJ , due to no interest in exploiting the music for commercial success and wanting more precise artistic development and focus, has re-surfaced and will do a world tour in the beginning of 2012, with the aim to expose people to a different approach to the art of DJ'ing and pushing boundries in sound, a DJ set that is predominantly all vinyl and also intergrating new digital micro technologies and not restricted to one style or genre of music . The tour is also a " Network Mission " for the Shadowcast.Organization, with the intent to promote the idea of going back to the roots of the underground philosophy that surrounded Electronic Music in the D.I.Y and early Rave scenes worldwide, in order to go on to the next step into the future of and creation of new concepts in sub cultural events.
