Muy buenas... ultimamente ando un poco atareado y no tengo mucho tiempo de pasar por aqui.
Hace un par de dias me mando Yvette un correo avisandome de esa errata y no tuve tiempo de publicarla.

Esto vuelve a demostrar el gran nivel al que esta llegando estas conversaciones acerca del detroit techno, sobretodo teniendo en cuenta que somos un pais en el que calan muy fuerte las modas y rapido nos olvidamos de lo anterior.

Que grande la ultima Split party. Pocas veces he disfrutado tanto en una fiesta por el publico, por el club, por la atmosfera... y eso que quizas en esta ocasiones los chicos de UR estuvieron un poquito espesos, o bueno quizas era yo el que lo estaba.

Dj 3000 solo pincho una hora y cuarto en los que puso varios temas de Los Hermanos, alguno de los ultimos temas de UR (me encanta el Ma Ya Ya) y de su propio sello Motech, y se gano la ovacion final con el Blue Monday de New Order.

Despues el gran Suburban Knight durante dos horas, clasico set del Sr. Pennington, aderezado con su habitual comportamiento tras los platos. En algunos momentos mas duro de lo habitual y terminado en Technicolor!!!

Tambien disfrute con el set de Chris Finke, y no es el primero, con mucho feeling Detroit y preparando el camino para Dj 3000 (Stardancer fue su mejor momento) y con Charles Siegling que se marco un pedazo de set a tres platos.

Lo mejor, ya digo el publico, se respiraba Detroit por todo el garito. Y en la otra sala escuche unos ratos de Mark Broom, Paul Mac y sobre todo Ben "Grandmaster" Sims; ya se advertia en el flyer de la fiesta especial set form the Essex boys, que rebuscaron fondo en sus colecciones.
Ben Sims en su party se marco un set superespecial desde James Brown, Techno Drivers, Lets Go, Night Drive, Afrika Bambata, Kraftwerk, Public Enemy y mucho electro y hip hop old school, hasta se puso a scratchear a lo DMC...para mi lo mejor de la noche. He rocked da house!!!

Creo que, por lo menos estas dos ultimas, Split superan a las miticas Lost. La proxima el 1 de abril con Kenny Larkin sera el lanzamiento del nuevo Split label.

@ Goodfella, estuviste por alli? Que te parecio?

Ese Ben Sims si que me gustaria a mi verlo por aqui, pinchando funky, hip hop, electro y Detroit...
La verdad es que cada vez que viene al norte me gusta menos la linea que sigue en sus sets, que envidia te te tengo de Niro jejejejeje

No pude ir De Niro, mi jefe me dejó castigado todo el sábado noche una vez más. Eso sí, tus crónicas se agradecen. A cambio me queda disfrutar de esto que me trajeron el otro día desde el Japón:



Doble cedese repleto de temones. Como diría Tarantino, se nota que es un cedese hecho "con la polla dura" (perdón por la grosería pero es que se presiente tras escucharlo).
Son más de 30 temas entre los cuales, por supuesto, hay algunos que brillan menos que otros e incluso que no me gustan, pero a cambio hay otros por ahí que son absolutamente tremendos.
Mucho temón épico tipical detroit, pero también mucho corte más rollo "intimo", temas que te "crispan" los nervios (muy acelerados), temas que te recuerdan que no todo es soltar adrenalina e incluso temas de regalo que no aparecen en el tracklist (y que no veas como suenan). Cualité, sin duda.

Al parecer hay dos versiones de ese disco de Jay Dee: una con letras y otra entera instrumental. No he escuchado la versión con letras pero no creo que supere al instrumental, creo que las voces incluso estropearían los temas. Me lo pillé nada más descubrirlo en las novedades de nuloop de hace unos meses: http://www.nuloop.com/Details_e.php?arti=37175

El disco entero es una maravilla, simple, directo y lleno de sentimiento, parece de otra época. El tema que se llama "bbe" es ya para llorar, que atmósfera joder. Yo lo recomiendo sin dudarlo.

Solamente he escuchado el Cd y tiene ya algunos años donde hay temas solamente instrumentales y otros con rappin, pero tras ver tu post he consultado en discogs y si que existen en vinilo un par de ediciones, la ultima solamente instrumental... la buscare en slsk.

Ademas es uno de los pocos discos de hip hop del siglo XXI que me he comprado.

J Dilla era mi productor favorito, junto a Dj Premier.

Su ultima actuacion en el Jazz Cafe de Camdem, la hizo en silla de ruedas.

A mi nunca me ha gustado el hiphop, pero claro, solo había escuchado caca... pero ultimamente he empezado a remover y he encontrado unas pocas cosas que me han gustado mucho. Así que buscare cosas de Dj Premier, que si es la mitad de bueno que J Dilla, ya merece la pena.

Ladies and Gentleman; I know many of you want to know what’s going on with the festival for 2006. I cannot tell you for sure, but I have been told that the City of Detroit is in negotiation right now and are only considering companies that can pay for the festival expenses out right. Which I believe is a wise decision. This festival needs financial stability. Unfortunately with our greatest efforts, we could not achieve what was necessary to continue to produce the festival in 2006. Here are some of the facts why, questions and answers:

Q: How many people attended the festival this year?
A: We sold 41,000 tickets this year. That translates to 37,000 1 day tickets and 4,000. Multi day tickets

Q: Are the numbers down from previous years?
A: Yes, but just slightly. Comparing beer revenues from 2004 to 2005 suggests we really only had approximately 50,000 people in 2004. This does represent a small decline.

Q: So was the festival successful? It sounds like you a lot less people than in the past.
A: Considering the planning window we had put this thing together, we think the festival was incredibly successful. In addition, our numbers this year, and the fact that Hart Plaza capacity is less than previously thought suggest that our earlier festivals did not have 1,000,000 people in attendance as previously reported.

Q: Did charging for the festival have a big impact?
A: We surveyed festival goers and they told us that they thought ticket prices were extremely reasonable. The smaller than expected ticket sales were caused partly by inaccurate counts from previous festivals and partly from our own overly optimistic goals for this year’s festival. Finally, the biggest factor in lower ticket totals was our inability promote ,because we were only approved for the permit 9 days before the event. This made advance ticket sales and fundraising nearly impossible, so we couldn’t do follow through on our advance marketing program. The other sign that our issue was promotion was the fact that in previous years there were a much larger number of out of town guests. To be successful, this festival needs to be promoted starting in November.

Q: How will you pay the invoices of the vendors? Many say they haven’t been paid.
A: Yes, there are several vendors that MusicLogical still owes money. My intention was to bring a partner with some financial stability and resources in to partner up with MusicLogical and relieve the debts from the 2005 Fuse-In festival, but at this point we have not been able to achieve that.

Q: Are you saying you lost money?
A: Yes, because of lack of promotion time on the festival, the festival sold less tickets generated less revenue than we would have hoped. The costs were tight and we had a very good handle on the operational aspects of this event. This was not about our operation of the event – it was about not having enough time to properly market the event and draw the crowds that still want to hear our music. I believe people would be surprised at how tightly this festival was run and how organized the entire effort really was. If we had 10,000 more foreign visitors, not only would we have broken even, but the city of Detroit would have received that economic spillover as well.

Q: Can the festival have financial success?
A: Yes, absolutely. If it is run as well as we ran it, and if it was started 6 months earlier (assuming the weather was positive) it would absolutely make money, and be able to generate cash that the City could use to help rebuild Hart Plaza for other festivals.

This is too great a festival to keep down. If the city would allow enough time to promote it by awarding the festival permit months in advance instead of days in advance, this festival could continue to bring music and dollars downtown for years to come. As an ambassador of our music (Techno) and our city (Detroit), I will continue to do whatever I can to spread the word throughout the world.

Para la memoria nos quedarán esos Jaylib, además de todos los himnos que creo con The Ummah y Slum Village, que por cierto, llegaron a remezclar a Carl Craig, con el seudónimo de J-88.
